The Romea Strata Pilgrim's Arrival in Rome

Concluding your Romea Strata journey in Rome is a moment of profound spiritual significance for every pilgrim. Reaching St. Peter’s Basilica, the heart of Christianity, represents the final stage of a pilgrimage that traverses territories, cultures, and histories.

Access to St. Peter's Basilica for Romea Strata Pilgrims

Your arrival in Rome along the Romea Strata culminates in a solemn moment: entering St. Peter’s Basilica. To best welcome pilgrims, a dedicated entrance has been established: the Prayer Path (Percorso Oranti), designed to ensure smooth and spiritually focused access.

The Worshippers’ Entrance is located in St. Peter’s Square. To reach it, you will pass through Via di Porta Angelica, where you must go through security checks. From there, by following the signs for the Prayer Path, pilgrims can directly enter the reserved reception area, bypassing tourist queues.

Pilgrim Welcome Point

The Pilgrim Welcome Point is situated in the right wing of the Basilica, directly opposite the stairs leading to the portico. Here, Romea Strata volunteers are ready to welcome walkers, offering essential services: you can leave your backpack, use the restrooms, and receive useful information. This is also where you can request your Testimonium, the parchment that attests to the completion of your pilgrimage

How to Obtain the Testimonium

The Testimonium is an official certificate that attests to the completion of your pilgrimage devotionis causa (for devotional reasons) to the tomb of St. Peter. It is issued by the Vatican Basilica to those who have travelled at least:

  • 100 km on foot
  • 200 km by bike

The document is issued at the Basilica’s Pilgrim Welcome Point, after verification of the pilgrim’s credential with the stamps collected during the journey. To learn more about the procedures, requirements, and significance of the Testimonium, visit the dedicated Testimonium page.
