“Pilgrims of Hope”: a volunteer opportunity during the Jubilee 2025 in Rome
With the Jubilee 2025 approaching, Rome is preparing to welcome all the faithful who will reach the Eternal City.
For all those who wish to be an integral part of this extraordinary event, the Homo Viator – San Teobaldo Foundation, thanks to the Via Romea Strata and the Fabbrica di San Pietro, are offering the opportunity to volunteer in support of the staff of St. Peter’s Basilica in welcoming pilgrims arriving in the Piazza at the end of their journey.
27/11/2023
- Duration and commitment: the service will start in May 2024, in preparation for the Jubilee period which will run from December 2024 to December 2025. Volunteers are sought, preferably for 4 consecutive weeks, which can be repeated each year (or even several times in the same year for shorter periods) depending on the availability of each person.
- Location and times: The reception service takes place between St. Peter’s Square and the cloakroom at the foot of the Basilica. The service operates seven days a week, for the entire year, with two volunteers in the morning and two in the afternoon. The service is dedicated to those arriving in Rome on foot or by bicycle on a spiritual journey.
- Tasks and activities: the volunteers will provide crucial information to pilgrims, including directions on where to go for security checks, where to leave luggage and bicycles, and how to collect the Testimonium. They will also be a source of information about the pilgrim’s mass and blessing. Knowledge of English is preferable.
- Training and support: the Fabbrica di San Pietro and the Fondazione Homo Viator will provide the necessary training for all volunteers. The period and method of training will be defined in collaboration with the volunteers concerned.
- Board and lodging: in order to facilitate participation, board and lodging will be provided by the Fabbrica di San Pietro and the Fondazione Homo Viator, on a self-managed basis by the volunteers.
- In order to participate in this unique experience, volunteers are requested to express their availability as soon as possible, indicating their preferred period. This will allow the formation of a timetable and the start of the training organisation with the Fabbrica di San Pietro.
