Discover a new Route

An important and ancient route from Central and Eastern Europe, crossing 7 states, arrives in Rome.

The Romea Strata: A European Connection

The Romea Strata is a European ancient route that links the northeast of the continent to Rome, crossing seven countries: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Italy.

It’s the longest route to Rome from the east, a mosaic of historic paths once traveled by pilgrims, merchants, soldiers, scientists, and missionaries. Today, it represents a journey of spirituality, culture, and connection, uniting diverse traditions, landscapes, and memories into one great walking experience.

From the Baltic plains to the Alps, from ancient Central European cities to Italian medieval villages, the Romea Strata follows country roads, forest paths, Roman tracks, medieval roads, and quiet secondary streets. Along the way, you pass monasteries, churches, hospices, forests, and cities of art, experiencing an authentic journey immersed in the history and beauty of Europe’s heartland.

The route can be traveled on foot or by bike, with variations that adapt to different starting points and stages. It isn’t just one path but a network of routes that, like the veins of a living organism, lead pilgrims to converge on the Eternal City.

The Romea Strata is more than a route: it’s a stratification of stories, cultures, and inner journeys. It’s an invitation to slow down, listen, and rediscover the meaning of travel and sharing.
