Die Romea Strata. The Pilgrimage Routes of Osttirol, Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Province of Vicenza
The Romea Strata is a thousand-year-old pilgrimage route that begins in Tarvisio, crosses Italy, and leads pilgrims to Rome. The main route winds through five regions rich in history and unique landscapes: Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, and Lazio.
This ancient path, dating back to the Middle Ages, connected people and cultures from the Baltic Sea and Central-Eastern Europe, creating a route of extraordinary spiritual, cultural, and scenic value. The journey passes through walled cities, waterways, historic villages, little-known places of worship, and genuine artistic treasures, all the way to the heart of the Eternal City.
The official Romea Strata guide accompanies pilgrims along the entire route, offering historical and cultural introductions, descriptions of variations and stages, practical advice for tackling the journey in its entirety or in sections, and information on where to sleep and how to use GPS tracks. A dedicated section also covers the arrival in Rome, with all the useful information on reception services, the Testimonium, and recommended routes for an easy entry into the Basilica.
