How to Get the Romea Strata Credential
A Practical Guide for Pilgrims on their Journey
If you’re planning your journey along the Romea Strata, the first step is to request the Pilgrim’s Credential. This document, similar to a passport, identifies the bearer as a pilgrim and allows them to collect stamps from the various locations passed through along the route.
The Credential is more than just a souvenir: it’s necessary to access pilgrim accommodation, to obtain the Testimonium in Rome – the final certificate attesting to the completion of the entire pilgrimage – and to receive, where applicable, the Miliarium, an award that acknowledges the journey undertaken. Its use is recognized on all sections of the Romea Strata.
Requesting the Credential is easy: simply fill out the form at the bottom of this page, indicating whether you prefer to receive it at home or collect it from one of the distribution points along the path. A minimum contribution of 5 euros is requested, which covers printing and administrative costs. If you choose shipping, we recommend applying at least 15 days before your departure. Those travelling in a group can submit a single request, specifying the number of Credentials desired.
The Romea Strata Credential is much more than just a document: it is the common thread of a unique travel experience, woven from encounters, silence, landscapes, and memory. It is what distinguishes a pilgrim from any other traveller. Carrying it with you means being part of a walking community that rediscovers the value of slow time, respect for the places visited, and authentic hospitality.
