Useful information to know and how to choose them
USEFUL INFORMATION
Footwear for the Walk
The right step begins with the right shoe. Your shoes will be one of the most important elements of your journey. They will support you for kilometers, across trails, dirt roads, asphalt, and gravel. It is crucial to choose a suitable and well-tested model.
Avoid starting with new shoes: your feet must already be accustomed to wearing them to prevent blisters and pain. The ideal footwear is trekking or mountain boots that are sturdy, waterproof, and have a rigid sole. They must offer good ankle support and ensure stability on uneven terrain. If you anticipate asphalt sections, consider lighter shoes but still with good cushioning.

Every walk is different, and so is every pilgrim. The choice of shoe depends on:
- The season in which you are walking (hot or cold climate)
- The length of the route and the prevailing type of terrain
Your walking habits and your fitness level Seek advice from a specialized shop, try the shoes on with the same socks you will use on the walk, and check that there is enough space for your toes, especially on long downhill sections.

Spare Footwear
During breaks or at the end of the day, it’s important to let your feet breathe. Bring with you:
- Technical sandals: comfortable, lightweight, with a thick sole
- Slippers: perfect for the shower or for moments of rest at your accommodation

Foot Care on the Walk
A good walker knows how to listen to their feet. Take care of them every day:
- Wash and dry your feet well after each stage
- Use moisturizing or anti-blister creams
- Wear breathable technical socks and, if necessary, a second pair for extra protection
- Apply specific plasters at the first signs of irritation

Remember:
Comfort starts from the ground up. Do not underestimate the importance of a good insole, adequate socks, and the time spent choosing the right shoe.
