Pilgrimage Promotional Tour 2022
Walking from Aquileia to Rome along the Romea Strata
06/06/2025

From May 14th to June 29th, 2022, the second edition of the Pilgrimage Promotional Tour took place – the European pilgrimage along the Romea Strata, the ancient route connecting the Baltic Sea to Rome through seven European countries. Following the success of the first edition in 2021 (Krakow–Aquileia), the journey continued in Italy, into the heart of the peninsula.
In 49 days of walking, pilgrims covered 810 kilometers on foot along the Italian section of the Romea Strata. They started from Aquileia in Friuli Venezia Giulia, traversing plains, hills, villages, and the Apennines, ultimately reaching Rome, the final destination and spiritual symbol of the journey.
The Pilgrimage Promotional Tour 2022 was an experience of slow and mindful tourism, open to all: anyone could join and walk for one or more stages, experiencing a journey at a human pace through nature, history, spirituality, and hospitality. Each day was an opportunity to rediscover often-forgotten places, enhance local heritage, and create bonds between people and territories.
Along the way, cultural events and meetings were organized, involving local communities, institutions, and associations, making the Tour a true travelling laboratory for territorial enhancement.
With the Pilgrimage Promotional Tour, the Romea Strata is confirmed as a great European long-distance trail to be experienced, promoted, and passed on: an inner and cultural journey that unites landscapes, memories, and communities in the heart of Europe.
