{"id":5354,"date":"2023-04-06T17:15:00","date_gmt":"2023-04-06T15:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.romeastrata.org\/?p=5354"},"modified":"2025-08-05T15:40:28","modified_gmt":"2025-08-05T13:40:28","slug":"the-three-roman-roads-a-meeting-point-for-all-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.romeastrata.org\/en\/2025\/08\/04\/the-three-roman-roads-a-meeting-point-for-all-europe\/","title":{"rendered":"The three Roman roads, a meeting point for all Europe!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">On 23 March the conference dedicated to the three Roman roads was held in the Italian capital, focusing on the importance of these routes in connecting the entire Europe.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The three routes in question,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.viefrancigene.org\/en\/\">Via Francigena<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.viaromeagermanica.eu\/\">Romea Germanica<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.romeastrata.it\/\">Romea Strata<\/a>,\u00a0are the historic ways that led pilgrims, merchants, travellers and armies to the Eternal City since the Middle Ages, are now being studies in the rurAllure pilot\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rurallure.eu\/pilots\/thermal-heritage-on-the-ways-to-rome\/\">Thermal heritage\u00a0 pilot on the Ways to Rome.<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The meeting welcomed routes\u2019 representatives for a discussion about promotion of the pilgrimages and enhancement of their visibility in view of the 2025 Catholic Jubilee.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Via Francigena, connecting Canterbury and Rome, is one of the oldest pilgrimage routes, managed by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.viefrancigene.org\/en\/\">European Association of the Via Francigena ways<\/a>\u00a0(EAVF).\u00a0EAVF, a rurAllure partner, a non-profit organisation created in 2001, currently unites 215 local authorities such as municipalities, provinces and regions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Via Romea Germanica\u00a0was the most important connection between Rome and the Germanic empires for many centuries. Its itinerary represents a \u201cliving monument\u201d stretching from German Stade through Austria to Northern Italy and Rome. The Cultural Routes was established in December 2018 in Bolzano with the creation of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.viaromeagermanica.com\/\">Via Romea Germanica Association<\/a>\u00a0 which piloted its recognition as a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coe.int\/en\/web\/cultural-routes\">Cultural Route of the Council of Europe\u00a0<\/a>in 2020. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unibo.it\/it\">University of Bologna<\/a>\u00a0is part of the Scientific Committee of the Association\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Via Romea Strata refers to the pilgrimage paths from Eastern Europe: routes from the Baltic Sea (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), Poland, Czech Republic and Austria through Tarvisio; from the Balkans through Hungary, from Slovenia via Gorizia and from Croatia through Trieste. The revival of the Romea Strata as a comprehensive pilgrimage routes\u2019 network was an initiative of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pellegrininellaterradelsanto.it\/\">Fondazione Homo Viator San Teobaldo,<\/a>\u00a0a rurAllure partner, together with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.confraternitadisanjacopo.it\/\">Italian Centre for Compostellan Studies<\/a>.
