Miren > Fucecchio > Rome

This route starts in Slovenia and crosses into Italy through Savogna di Isonzo, a village in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The route follows the Via Romea Aquileiense, which is directed southwest passing through Aquileia, an early center of Christianity and ecclesiastical organization, and thanks to its port, a crossroads for trade of glass, iron and amber.

The Via Romea Aquileiense passes through the Karst region, location of conflicts and battles between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian troops during the First World War.

Culturally, this border area represents the melting pot between East and West,is a site of contact and exchange in an area that, in the 18th century, progressively became Mitteleuropa. The route is characterized by the climatic influence of the Gulf Stream and by the presence of lowland woods, evidence of the previous environment of the Po Valley.

This route leads to Rome through the Via Romea Aquileiense, Via Romea Annia,Via Romea Nonantolana-Longobarda, Francigena.
